Basic essential answers for debating a muslim

The Greek term for “only-begotten” in the King James version is monogenes which means “one of a kind,” “one and only,” “unique.” Christ is portrayed as the unique or the one and only Son of God. That this is the more correct meaning of the term as opposed to “only begotten” is readily seen in the following citation:

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son (monogenes).” Hebrews 11:17 NIV

Hence the preceding references clearly demonstrate that monogenes does not mean generation, that Christ was God’s firstborn or first creation. Rather it speaks of uniqueness, that Jesus’ shares a unique relationship with God as Father from all eternity. This is true of Christ alone since no other person has ever shared an eternal filial relationship with God.

We must point out that Jesus is neither the literal Son of God since this would imply time and procreation noting that a Father always precedes a son who is conceived physically. Nor is he God’s Son in a metaphorical sense. As we have already shown the Holy Bible clearly indicates that there have been and will continue to be many who are sons in a metaphorical or spiritual sense.

JOHN 17:1-5 Note here that this is Christ's prayer before His arrest. And note that Christ says that He was with God before the world began.

JOHN 5:18-27 - Note here that Jesus refers to Himself as the Son of God about 10 times.

JOHN 8:36, JOHN 10:36, JOHN 11:4

MATT 17:5 - GOD HIMSELF calls Jesus His Son.

MATT 22:2 - Jesus alludes to Himself as the King's Son

MATT 26:63,64 - Jesus answers Pilate that he is the Son of God.

LUKE 3:22 - Again GOD HIMSELF calls Jesus His Son.

LUKE 1:35 - Even the Angel in talking to Mary says that her son will be the Son of God.

Exodus 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: Yehova is his name.

Psalms 2:7 "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

Gen 15:1-2After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." 2Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"

John 8Jesus answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, 'He is our God'; 55and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word. 56"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad." So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"58Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." 59Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.

Isa 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.

Proverbs 8 22 - "The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old.23"From everlasting I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.24"When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no springs abounding with water25"Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills I was brought forth; 26 While He had not yet made the earth and the fields, Nor the first dust of the world.27"When He established the heavens, I was there, When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,28When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed,29When He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth;30Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, 31Rejoicing in the world, His earth, And having my delight in the sons of men.

Word of GOD: Psalm 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host.20He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

Isaiah 107:11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. 12"For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.13"Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up, And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up, And it will be a memorial to the LORD, For an everlasting sign which will not be cut off."

Throughout the Old Testament and in the Jewish intertestamental Wisdom literature, the power of God's spoken word is emphasized (Ps. 33:6, 107:20; Is. 55:11; Jer. 23:29; 2 Esd. 6:38; Wisdom 9:1). "Judaism understood God's Word to have almost autonomous powers and substance once spoken; to be, in fact, 'a concrete reality, a veritable cause.'" (Richard N. Longenecker, The Christology of Early Jewish Christianity , 145.)

Son of Man

John 1:51 And He *said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Daniel 7 13-14 "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man(Bar enash) was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him."And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

{In rest of the OT the word “Bane Adan” is used for “son of man”}.

Matthew 9 : 6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--then He *said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and go home."

Matt 26: Jesus *said to him, "You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy;66 what do you think?" They answered, "He deserves death!"

Numbers 12: The definition of a prophet He said, “Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream. 12:7My servant Moses is not so. He is faithful in all my house. 12:8 With him I will speak mouth to mouth, even plainly, and not in riddles; and he shall see Yahweh’s form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?”

God defined in the Numbers 12 passage to Miriam and Aaron that
visions and dreams is the way he communicates with his prophets. This is not the way God communicated with his servant Moses. This is equally true of Jesus:

John 20:28Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29Jesus *said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."

Mark 12: Parable of the Vine-growers

1 And He began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard and put a wall around it, and dug a vat under the wine press and built a tower, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey.2 At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, in order to receive some of the produce of the vineyard from the vine-growers.3 They took him, and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.4 Again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.5 And he sent another, and that one they killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others.6 He had one more to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'7 But those vine-growers said to one another, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!'8 They took him, and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.9 What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vine-growers, and will give the vineyard to others.10 Have you not even read this Scripture:

'The stone which the builders rejected,

This became the chief corner stone;

11 This came about from the Lord,

And it is marvelous in our eyes'?"

Rev 22:12 "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."

Isaiah 41:4 "Who has performed and accomplished it, Calling forth the generations from the beginning? 'I, the LORD, am the first, and with the last. I am He.'"

John 19:7 The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God."

If Jesus were only speaking metaphorically the Jews would not
have brought him to trial on such a charge as blasphemy. [Death was the
penalty for blasphemy - ref. Lev. 24:16]. The Jews knew and understood
Psalms 82:6, and they had no problem with a metaphorical statement. The
Jews objected to Jesus claiming to be the unique, the eternal, "Son" of
God.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. 26"Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27"All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.28"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

John 5:21"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.24"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.26"For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

John 16 :14"He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.15"All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. 26Jesus answered them and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled27"Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."

Parable of Tenants/Vine grower Jesus' parable of the tenants in Matt 21:33-43 ends with the
landowner sending his son to collect a vineyard's fruit. The workers had
attacked and even killed some of the landowner's servants. When the son
came they killed him also. The interpretation of the parable is that God
has sent prophets to the people of Israel to call them to produce the fruits
of righteousness, but they rejected and mistreated them. Last of all God
sent Christ and the Jews killed him also. This also predicts Christ's
future crucifixion.

Isaiah 12:2 "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation." - The word for "salvation" is Yeshuah

John 12 :34 The crowd then answered Him, "We have heard out of the Law that the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?" 35So Jesus said to them, "For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.36"While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light."44And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.45"He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.46"I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.47"If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

John 10:30"I and the Father are one." 33 The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."34 Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I said, you are gods'? 35"If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

Psalm 23 :1Yahova is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.

John 10 :7- So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 "All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.11"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.12 "He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.13"He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.

14"I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me,15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16"I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.17"For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.18"No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father."

John 11: 23 Jesus *said to her, "Your brother will rise again." 24Martha *said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." 25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

The Comforter Holy Spirit

Below are the New Testament texts concerning the Comforter.- He doesn't seem to be possibly be muhammad anyway. He's invisible, lives forever among believers and the promise regarding it was completed just few days after the promise.

JOHN 14:15-17: "If you love me you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Comforter to be with you forever - the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he lives with you and will be in you."

JOHN 14:25, 26: "All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

JOHN 15:26: "When the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me."

JOHN 16:7,8: "But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment...."

JOHN 16:13-15: "But when he, the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it know to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you."

Acts 1:He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’ 11:17 If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?Acts 11:15-17

Was Jesus sent only for Israelites ?

Matt 28:18 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Deut 18: 15"The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.16 This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.'17 The LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well.18 I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.19 It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.20 But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.'21 You may say in your heart, 'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Songs of Solomon (5:16- makh-mawd'

From H2530; delightful; hence a delight, that is, object of affection or desire:)

The same word occurs again as a common noun in Hosea 9:6,16; 1 Kings 20:6; Lamentations 1:10,11; 2:4; Isaiah 64:10; 2 Chronicles 36:19; Ezekiel 24:16,21,25. In the last passage (Ezekiel 24:16, "the desire of thine eyes") it is applied to a woman, Ezekiel's wife (compare verse 18), and to the sons and daughters of the idolatrous Jews (verse 25). It would be just as wise to apply the word to Muhammad HERE as in the Song of Songs.

Bible Corruptions?

"They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read ... On the second day ... they gathered around Ezra the scribe to give attention to the words of the Law. They found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to ... Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God ..." Nehemiah 8:13-14,18

"Therefore the curses and sworn judgments WRITTEN IN THE LAW OF MOSES, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you. You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. JUST AS IT IS WRITTEN IN THE LAW OF MOSES, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth." Daniel 9:11-13

READ Jeremiah 36: 1-7, 20-32, 27-32 , Jer 31:33-37 - to know the context of Jeremiah 8 where muslims allege about Bible corruption.

"I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Matthew 5:18

"The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what kind of wisdom do they have." Jeremiah 8:9

"Like as We sent down on the dividers Those who made the Quran INTO SHREDS." S. 15:90-91

1 Timothy 4: Apostasy 1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

Jesus was not afraid to die. In fact, He predicted His own death and resurrection

Matthew 16:21 - From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Luke 18:31,32 - Jesus took the twelve aside and told them, 'We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles, they will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.'

John 12:30-32 - This voice was for your benefit, not mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself". He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

THE NEW TESTAMENT DESCRIBES JESUS' CRUCIFIXION AND DEATH.

Matthew 27:32-50, (vs 35) - When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(vs 50) - And when Jesus had cried again with a loud voice he gave up his spirit.

Luke 23:26-46, (vs 33) - When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left.(vs 46) - Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit". When he had said this, he breathed his last.

John 19:17-30 (vs 18) - Here they crucified him, and with him two others - one on each side, and Jesus in the middle.(vs 30) - When he had received the drink, Jesus said "It is finished.” With that he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Jesus: God's Wisdom 1 Cor 2 :6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;

7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

Matt 22: Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question:42 "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They *said to Him, "The son of David."43 He *said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying,

4 4The Lord said to my Lord,

"Sit at My right hand,

Until I put Your enemies beneath Your feet"'?(Psalm 110:1)

You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder (James 2:19) -

The word Elohim is used thousands of times for “God”; Adonai is used hundreds of times for “Lord”; both of these words are plural nouns in Hebrew.

  • A number of passages speak of the “faces” or “presences” or “persons” of God (Exodus 33:14; Deuteronomy 4:37; and Job 13:8).

  • God refers to Himself as “Us,” “Our,” and “We” (Genesis 1:26, 2:18 (LXX), 3:22, 11:7; Isaiah 6:8, and 41:21-24), a phenomenon that is reflected in virtually every English translation.

  • The OT says of God, “they caused me to wander” (Genesis 20:13), “they appeared” (Genesis 35:7), “they drew nigh” (Deuteronomy 4:7), “they went” (2 Samuel 7:23), and “they judge” (Psalm 58:11).

  • The OT calls God our “Creators” (Ecclesiastes 12:1), “Makers” and “Husbands” (Job 35:10; Psalm 149:2; Isaiah 54:5).

  • The OT says that God is “holy” (Joshua 24:19; Proverbs 9:10, 30:33), another plural.

(Colossians 2) 13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him.17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Titus 2: 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

John 10:30"I and the Father are one."

John 20:28Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29Jesus *said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."
